Ca’ Granda

        Social events

The NMMC 2019 organizes two social events activities to support academic dialogue: the welcome cocktail at the central courtyard of the “Ca’ Granda” and the gala dinner at Villa Necchi-Campiglio. Both evenings are set in a stimulating and relaxing environment in order to broaden networking opportunities.   The “Cà Granda”, or “the big house”, was founded on 1456 by the Duke of Milan Francesco Sforza, to host the Ospedale Maggiore complex so to provide medical care for the city’s poorest people. The University of Milan moved into Cà Granda in 1958, after the completion of the renovation projects, required by the significant damages caused by the Allied air raids during the second world war.   Cà Granda covers an area of 43,000 square meters and is, along with the Duomo, one of the most instantly recognisable features on the city’s map. It is shaped like a huge rectangle and subdivided into two crosses, with four courtyards at each end and a large central courtyard.   Villa Necchi Campiglio is a superb Heritage House, beautiful  example of exquisite architecture. The Villa was completed by the architect Piero Portaluppi in 1935. The structure was commissioned by the Necchi Campiglio family, part of the rich and elegant industrial Milanese middle class of the 30s.   Villa Necchi Campiglio boasts sensational works of art, such as oil on canvas by the renowned Canaletto. The Villa is surrounded by a peaceful garden where you can still immerse in the glamorous world of Milan’s interwar years. The main building is located in an enchanted garden with a tennis court, now converted in a glass house for private events, and a swimming pool.   The evening will start with a private guided tour of the stunning Villa Necchi Campiglio. Following the visit, it will be held a cocktail by the pool. During this tour, the partecipants could visit the Filippo de Pisis room, an exhibition of artwors collected by Luigi Vittorio Fossati Bellani. The dinner will be served in the Glass House, a spectacular structure immersed in the garden of the Villa. The dining will be accompanied by a pleasing background music.

GALA DINNER: the meeting point will be at the entrance of Villa Necchi Campiglio – Via Mozart, 12 at 20.30 – Underground MM1 Palestro Stop (Red Line)
Bus: 94 – 54 –  Itinerary from Congress Venue to Villa Necchi Campiglio available here
